A Night to Remember at the Lift-Off Season Awards.

Reflecting on an unforgettable evening at the Lift-Off Season Awards, I feel a story brewing, one that starts with a simple decision.

As I headed to the Lift-Off Season Awards, I let go of any expectations about our nomination for Best First-Time Film, choosing instead to focus on enjoying the evening with my parents at the iconic Pinewood Studios.

Unexpectedly, the night evolved into a sequence of astonishments. Hearing ‘Beneath a Mother’s Feet’ declared as the winner, disbelief washed over me. Accustomed to the rhythm of near misses and disappointments, the acknowledgment for my debut film felt like a dream piercing through reality. The evening brought another surprise at the closing of the awards when it was announced we had also won the Audience Choice Award. In those moments, it was hard to fully connect with my emotions, but upon reflection, I recognised the truth in the notion that dreams can indeed become reality if we just leave a crack open for them.

Watching the showcase of extraordinary films that evening, I was reminded of Rumi’s insight: “The wound is the place where the Light enters you.” This idea that our darkest moments can lead to the most beautiful outcomes resonated with me deeply as the events of the evening unfolded.

I am immensely grateful to everyone who contributed to our film. This accolade is a testament to our collective effort and the film would not have reached its potential without your dedication and passion.

I also want to express my gratitude to Lift-Off for their recognition, which holds immense meaning for me.

In a moment of celebration, I chose to wear an antique Palestinian pin on my tuxedo lapel to honour and remember those facing adversity in Gaza, the West Bank and beyond. In this time of personal achievement, it felt crucial to keep those enduring suffering in my thoughts, to aspire for peace, truth and reconciliation. 🤲🏻
