INTERVIEW WITH YABILADI

Ghita Zine from the Moroccan news agency, Yabiladi, interviewed Elias about his forthcoming film project, BENEATH A MOTHER’S FEET.

Elias talks about the inspiration behind the film, namely his mother, who, as a young mother in Morocco, walked out of her life and left her children behind.

The film is a way to investigate his own familial history around this decision. It is also an interrogation into maternal regret, self-identification, and social constructs around gender and parenting within the context of lower socio-economic Moroccan society.
