CASTING OUR SUPPORTING ROLES.

We have been looking at casting tapes for the supporting roles over the last few weeks - for Wedad’s mother and father, her children, and a neighbour. The casting director in Casablanca, Amine, has done an incredible job. All the characters surrounding Nisrine Adam will be performed by non-professional actors, to uphold the cinema verité style of the project. 

I did not intend at the outset for the dialogue in the film to be improvised but looking through the casting tapes, I felt it would be a missed opportunity not to seriously consider improvising some of the dialogue, as so many of the auditionees were brilliant at coming up with naturalistic and convincing conversations around Wedad’s predicament. I am excited to see what will manifest on the day. I have talking points up my sleeve, should I need them!

We meet with the shortlisted actors this coming Thursday. I hope we’ll have made a final selection on some key roles by then.
